Catharine (Siegfried) Gernert was born in Maxatawny Township, Berks County, PA on 10 February 1788 the daughter of Catherine Kutz and an unnamed Siegfried.

Carharine Kutz was born about 1758, the first child of Nicholas Kutz II and Eva Catharine Brobst. Nicholas Kutz II signed his Will on 16 November 1789 and it is on file in the Berks County Court House in Reading PA. Nicholas named the following Children in his Will:
*CATHERINE, b. about 1758

Elizabeth Siegfried, b. 5 May 1760, m. Henrich Siegfried son of Joseph Siegfried of Maxatawny Township, Berks County, PA.

Nicholas, b. 14 Feb 1764

Mary Dorothy Siegfried b. 2 Feb 1765, m. Abraham Siegfried, Henrich Siegfried's brother.

Susannah, b. 13 Mar 1768

Mary Margaret, 22 May 1771

John, b. 10 Nov 1774

Rosina, b. Oct 1777, Nicholas refers to her as his "youngest and last daughter Rosina Kutz".

*NOTE: Catharine Kutz(1758) was single when her Father's Will was written in 1789. Catharine Kutz (1758) will marry her widowed cousin Henry Brobst sometime after 1789. When Henry Brobst writes his Will in 1805, he mentions his wife Catharine, his Step-daughter Catharine Siegfried who by the marking on her tombstone was born in 1788 and his Brother-in-law John Kutz. Since Catherine Kutz was single when her Daughter Catherine (Siegfried) was born, it appears Catharine (Siegfried) was born out of wedloc to an unnamed Siegfried.

Catharine Siegfried (1788) married John Gernert (1780) on 20 Aug 1805. They had 12 Children: JOHANNAH, m Catharine Donmoyer; CATHARINE, m Daniel Hinterleiter; JONAS, m Lee Zeigler; MARIA ANNA, m(1) Charles Gackenback, m(2) John Bortz; NATHAN, m Salome Steininger; DAVID, m Lydia Mohr; SOLOMON, m Annie M. Eisenhart; HENRY, m Phoebe Eisenhart; WILLIAM, m(1) Elizabeth Gross, m(2) Salome Gross; JOHN, m Hannah Straub; BENJAMIN, m(1) Caroline Gackenbach, m(2) Lucetta Sarah Eisenhart; RUBEN, m Eliza Hinkle.
