BILL "BILLY" "PAPAW BILL" JACKSON, 88, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his residence following several years of Alzheimer's disease.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2009, Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, by Pastor Bill Boblett and Associate Pastor Fred Ferguson. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

He was born August 25, 1920, in Wayne County, the son of the late John V. and Ruby Carver Jackson.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. He worked for 32 years out of the Laborers Local #543 in Huntington and was a member of the VFW Post 9738. A sister, Onalee Leonard, also preceded him in death, along with three brothers, Miller, Ralph and Ted Jackson; a niece, Sally Leonard Lobenthal; a nephew, Danny R. Jackson; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence Leonard and Johnny Vacca.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jewel Bartram Jackson; two daughters, Malinda "Susie" Maynard and husband Dan of Lavalette, W.Va., Peggy Sowards and husband Roger of Wayne; two sons, Keith W. Jackson and wife Eva, Joseph E. Jackson and wife Kimberly A., all of Wayne; a sister, Phyllis Vacca of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Michael Golden Jackson and wife April of Wayne, Amber Thompson Foster and husband Shawn of Barboursville, W.Va., Jared Thompson and Jason Thompson and their father, Randall Thompson of Prichard, W.Va., Charley Jo Frasher and Carl Franklin Frasher and their father Charlie Frasher, Joseph Riley Jackson and Cassady Ray Jackson, all of Wayne; two great-grandsons, Wesley Chase and Brayden Scott Jackson; six step-grandchildren, Kevin Maynard and wife Amanda, Kim and Jennifer Maynard, Roger Sowards Jr., Michael and Joey Sowards; three step-great grandchildren, Cody Maynard, Jayden Adkins and Lilly Sowards; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to caregivers Twauny Damron and Eva Maynard, as well as Hospice of Huntington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington or the Alzheimer's Association.
