Anna Maren Thomsen born to Carl Thomas Thomsen and Maren nee:Shoendorff she was the eldest child of this union.

Anna was born in her maternal grandmother's home in Denmark during her parents stay there. This part of Denmark was annexed by Germany in 1880.

On some federal census Anna states her birthplace as being New York, and this was the family's place of re-entry once they had returned to America after her maternal grandmother's death.

Anna was a very young child when she traveled to America with her parents, upon their return sometime during the 1880's. She first married Thomas Herbert Briggs, a Spanish American War Veteran on 14 April 1900. He was killed in a train accident 29 Dec 1905.

Together they had three children:
Carl Briggs born: 26 Jan 1901 Mitchell, S.D.
Gladys Marion Briggs born: 19 Nov 1902 Mitchell,S.D.
Sarah Evelyn Briggs born: 23 Dec 1904 Mitchell,S.D.

Anna later re-married Charles Henry Chew, my great grandfather. Together they had only one child, a daughter Alberta Amelia Chew, my grandmother "Millie".

Anna lived in many places throughout her life, Florida, Iowa, South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.

Anna had her own boarding house and rented furnished rooms in Joplin, MO. It was a respectable living for a widow woman with three small children.
Address: 312 E. 9th St., Joplin, MO.
