Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday in the First Christian Church here for a pioneer Wagonerite, Mrs. Leila Simpson. Mrs. Simpson, 87, died Saturday, November 29, 1975, in the Wagoner Community Hospital. Rev. James Beck, pastor, and Re. Travis Pugh, former pastor now of Muskogee, officiated.

Mrs. Simpson will be remembered by many Wagoner residents because she and her husband J. E. Simpson owned and Operated Simpson's Grocery Store here. Mrs. Simpson worked alongside her husband for many years when the store was located on the Westside where Blaylock's Market is now located and also downtown here on East Cherokee.

Mrs. Simpson was an avid gardener, and almost right up to her death, she mowed and tended to the flowers in her yard on Parkinson. Her home, which had formerly been the Casaver Home, was among the first 20 Pre-Territorial Homes that were marked two years ago. An artist, Mrs. Simpson was featured in the Wagoner Record-Democrat several years ago.

Hersman Funeral Home directed burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers included; Bill French, Lester Foutch, Earl Foutch, Dencie Allen, Dick Harding, Bill Gilmore and David Iness.

Born July 6, 1988, in Montrose, Missouri, Mrs. Simpson moved from Roe, Arkansas in 1922 to Wagoner. She and her husband owned Simpson's Market and Grocery in Wagoner 1922-1953. She was a member of the Christian Church where she was a deaconess, taught Sunday School and was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Wagoner Hospital Auxiliary and Garden Club.

Survivors include two sisters; Mrs. John Davis and Mrs. Marian Shelton, Both of Roe, and longtime friends of the Glen Nofsingers whose children called her "Grandmother".
