George Kostopoulos, age 82, of Henderson, formerly of Barrington, Ill.; U.S. Army veteran of World War II, recipient of the Silver Star, Purple Heart and a hero to all, passed away May 7, 2008. Loving husband and best friend, of 52 years, to Georgia (nee Karabatsos). Loving father of Kristie Lee Kostopoulos, George (April) Kostopoulos and Elaine (Ken) Swift; proud grandfather of 11; great-grandfather of two; dear brother of Bessie (the late Tom) George, Dora (the late Ted) Mylonas, Nick (Anne) Kostas, Peter (Stella) and John (Elaine) Kostopoulos; brother-in-law of Peter (Carolyn) Karabatos; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. George was a founding father and member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, Ill., and a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Las Vegas. He was active with the St. John Church Men's Club and served as secretary/treasurer for the bowling league for over 35 years. George worked in the printing industry for over 40 years, serving as manager for Regensteiner and Manz Companies. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway in Palatine, Ill. Family and friends will meet for the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2350 Dempster St., Des Plaines, IL 60016.
