Sherwood Tipton
Sherwood Tipton, age 88, of Spring Brook Rd Unicoi, TN died Tuesday, at his home.
He was the son of the late Christopher Columbus and Minnie McCourry Tipton, and a native of Mitchell County, NC.
He was a Veteran Of The United States Navy, and was retired from Clinchfield Railroad and The VA Center Mountain Home, TN. He was a member of Limestone Cove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include; Beloved wife, Hettie B. Tipton, two sons, James Sherwood Tipton, and wife Sue, and Samuel Franklin Tipton, and wife Patricia, all of Erwin, TN, three grandchildren, Taunya Best, James Christopher Tipton, and John Sherwood Tipton, six great grandchildren, Billy Best, Johnny Best, David Best, Celia Best, Daniel Best, and Andrew Tipton, one step grandchild, Wendy, a special friend "Buddy" Wayne Smalling, and a beloved puppy "Lady".
He was preceded in death by; wife, Virginia Elliot Tipton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4, at 8:00pm, in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home Erwin, TN with Reverend Gene Deaton, Reverend Billy Byrd, and Reverend Esteal Williams officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Military Graveside Services will be conducted Friday, May 5, at 2:00pm, by Company H Second Squadron 278th Armored Calvary Regiment Honor Guard, at Roselawn Memory Gardens Johnson City, TN.
Pallbearers will be C. L. Morrell, Scott Roberts, Sonny Coffee, Raymond Peterson, Ernest Snyder, Jerry Smith, Dick Phillips, Frankie Harris, Mack Lewis, Ernest Elliot, and Jack Smalling, Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of The Limestone Cove United Methodist Church whom he loved and "Buddy" Wayne Smalling.
