George Hirst was an infant when he emigrated with his parents Sydney and Mary (nee Sykes) and a sister, Susannah, on the GEORGE FYFE in 1842.

His father Sydney built the Christ Church Taita church in Lower Hutt which is now a historics building.

George married Elizabeth Wadman Hooper and became a farmer in Konini which is 7km south of Pahiatua, Manawatu.
They had 11 children.
He died 15 years before Elizabeth
