AUTO RAMS TRUCK, FOUR KILLED IN S. L.

Two young couples died Sunday after the car in which they were riding smashed into the rear of a semi-trailer truck parked at the side of the road at 1600 W. North Temple.
Three of the persons apparently died instantly in the crash which occurred at 1:42 a.m.
The car, owned and driven by Thomas Justin Anderson, 29, 834 Duluth Ave. (1540 North), struck the rear of a parked semi-trailer owned by Little Audrey Truck Line, Fremont, Neb., said Police Officer Alan B. Clark.
Mr. Anderson, his wife Doreen Anderson, 28, John William Robinson, 27, 565 Pugsley St. (335 West), and his wife, Melita Robinson, 32, all were in the Anderson vehicle, Officer Clark said.
All but Mrs. Anderson were pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mark's Hospital. Mrs. Anderson died Sunday at 5:15 a.m. in the same hospital.
Officer Clark said the eastbound Anderson vehicle struck the parked semi-trailer truck with such force the engine of the automobile was sheared off, all seats in the car were torn from their moorings and the Robinsons were catapulted from the back seat into the front seat.
The auto was jammed about five feet under the semi-trailer truck and the truck's rear dual wheels were broken loose and smashed against the second set of dual wheels.
Drivers of the truck - Harold T. Wilson and Steven Rhoten, both of Fremont - had parked the truck at the side of the road while they went to eat in a nearby restaurant, Officer Clark said.
The officer said there were no lights but there were reflectors on the truck.
He said a witness - Fred Conde, 655 Lamaroe St. (1130 West) - told him it appeared the driver made no attempt to swerve nor was there any indication of braking. Officer Clark said he could not find any skid marks.
The victims were trapped in the vehicle until a wrecker arrived and pulled the car from under the big truck.
Officer Clark said investigation is continuing and details..
