Betty J. Halverson, of Nixa, departed this life on Friday, October 24, 2008, at the age of 85. She was born August 7, 1923, in Centralia, Ill. Betty was a wonderful wife, mom, sister and grandmother, and a heck of a cook. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by us all. She was dearly loved by all of her family. Betty was married to Lt. Kenneth Halverson on November 14, 1943, he was a pilot killed in World War II. After the war was over, in time she married Kenneth's brother Wesley Halverson also a World War II veteran. They were married for almost 50 years. He preceded her in death, along with their young son, Ronald. Betty retired in 1986, from Shepherd of the Hills, where she was a tour guide and Aunt Molly in Old Matt's Cabin. She was a charter member of the Cape Fair Senior Citizen group, a member of the Kimberling City Methodist Church, also a Gold Star Wives member. Betty is survived by one daughter, Barbara Henry; two sons, James Halverson and wife Debbie, and Russell Halverson and wife Lori; one sister, Deloris Wheeler; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and Adam. Memorial services will be held in Greenlawn South on Friday, October 31, 2008, at 10 a.m. with a graveside memorial at 11 a.m. in the National Cemetery. Betty's remains will be buried by Wesley in the National Cemetery on Seminole. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Community Hospices of America, 1465 E. Primrose, Springfield, MO 65804. Thank you to the wonder caregivers from Community Hospices of America and Christian Healthcare of Nixa for all they did for Betty.
