The body of First Lt. Lloyd R. Kerr will arrive in Ottumwa Wednesday at 4 p.m. and will be taken to the Johnson funeral chapel where military services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in charge of the O.B. Nelson American Legion post, No. 3. The Rev. Donald H. Gill, pastor of the First Christian church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Owen Carlson, Robert Wilkinson, Billie Genochio, John Wilcox, roy Kenble, Jr., and Gilbert Terrell.
Lieutenat Kerr was born September 27, 1923, in Burlington. Following his graduation from the Ottumwa high school in 1941, he helped his parents Mr. and Mrs. Will DeByuyn, at the Wooden Shoe oil station and cafe, 1804 Albin road, and was later employed by John Morrell & Co. He left Ottumwa for his cadet training on January, 1942. He received his wings April 15, 1944, and left for overseas duty with the 12th Air Force in October 1944. Lieutenant Kerr was a P-47 fighter pilot with the 86th fighter group army air force, and had flown 37 missions in Italy and over central Europe when he was killed in action in France, February 23, 1945.
He is survived by his parents, one brother, Donald (Jim) Kerr of East Jaffrey, N.H.; and one sister, Mrs. Betty King of Ottumwa.
