FRED ENGLE, 62, DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS

Fred R. Engle, 62, of 919 N. Page St., Marengo, died unexpectedly in St. Joseph Hospital, Belvidere, Monday, May 4. He had been a patient there for four days.

Born in Marengo July 9, 1896, he was the son of the late Charles and Augusta (Steinke) Engle. He was married to Nora Nealon in Belvidere in 1914. Employed as a carpenter in Rockford, he came to Marengo, living in his present home for 20 years and following his trade.

Surviving besides the widow are two daughters, Mrs Robert (Marjorie) London, Marengo, and Mrs. Donna Roberts, Tucson, AZ; a son, Fred Jr., Woodstock; nine grandchildren; a brother, Charles, Marengo and a sister, Mrs Chris Eicksteadt, Marengo.

He was preceded in death by a son, William, killed in action during World War II, and two brothers.

Services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Fr. Daniel O'Connell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Osborn Funeral Home was in charge of services

Pallbearers were Everett Johnson and Raymond Tornow of Belvidere, James Cleary, William Cleary, Frank DiPirro and Clifford Pollnow.
