RUDOLPH HAWPE

At his residence, near Arrow Rock, Saline County, Missouri, on Monday morning, October 8, 1849, RUDOLPH HAWPE, Esq., aged 50 years.

The deceased was born in Augusta County, Virginia, and moved to this State about twenty-seven years ago; since which time he has been a resident of Saline County.

The deceased was for several years a Justice of the Peace for this county; and in the various relations of life - as a citizen, magistrate, husband, father and friend - he maintained an unimpeachable character, and an unflinching integrity that nothing could shake. He was an honest man, from the necessities of his nature; and in his death this county has lost one of its most upright and useful citizens.

The deceased was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, for about twenty years before his death.

His remains were followed to the grave by the Masonic fraternity of this place, the deceased being a R. A. Mason; the Lodge of I.O.O.F., and a large concourse of his fellow citizens, who testified, by their presence, the respect they had through life for the deceased.
_______

At a special meeting of Arrow Rock Lodge, No. 55, of A. Y. A. Masons, held at their Lodge Hall, in Arrow Rock, on the 9th October, A.D. 1849, A. L. 5849, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted.

Resolved, That in the death of our ever to be lamented Bro. Rudolph Hawpe, P. Master of this Lodge, Masonry in this section of the country, and our Lodge more especially, have lost one of its most worthy and exemplary members; that in the character of our departed Bro. there were united a high-toned morality and honorable department, with kindness of feelings that are seldom equalled, and never excelled; all of which formed in him a character worthy to be revered and imitated by his surviving brethren.

Resolved, That we deeply sympathise with the beraved widow and children of our departed Brother; and that in their future welfare and happiness, we, as Masons and as individuals, shall ever feel a lively interest.

Resolved, That the members of this Lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.

Resolved, That we return our sincere thanks to our Brethren of Friendship Lodge, No., 40, I. O. O. F, for their attendance at the funeral of our deceased brother.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the widow of our deceased Brother; and that they be published in the St. Louis Republican, and St. Joseph Union.

Amen --- H. R. Mills, Sec'y
