Phillip Franz Trump was born 22 Oct. 1817 in Rubenehim, Bavaria (Germany). He arrived in the US through New Orleans in 1844 and then went to St. Louis. While in St. Louis he met Katherine Sewing and they were married on 23 Aug 1846 at Holy Ghost Berman Evangelical Church, St. Louis by Pastor F. Pioker.

In 1845 he purchased land next to his brother Johann "George" Trump (FAG #69616409)in Lee County, Iowa where he stayed until 1855 when he sold their land and moved to Kansas. They first went to Ellsworth for about four or five years. In 1859 or 1860, the family moved to Leavenworth, Kansas.

He and his wife were running a boarding house in Leavenworth when he decided to join the Union Army. Phillip joined the Union Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas at the age of 44 on 6 Sep 1861. He joined as a Pvt. in Co B, 8th Regiment of the Kansas Volunteers. He died of dysentery on 11 Nov 1862 at Hospital #1, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
