Chico Enterprise-Record, Wednesday, January 6, 1954: "Joseph Bradford Dies Yesterday at Chico Rest Home. Joseph Bradford, a Butte County resident for the past 49 years, died yesterday afternoon in a local rest home where he had been for the past year because of ill health. He was born in Michigan, May 15, 1865. When in his early twenties, he moved to Baker, Ore., where he married Susan Harris. They ranched in that vicinity until 1899 when he moved to Modoc County. He moved to Butte County and made his home in Durham since 1905. His wife died in 1943. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Nancy Cole of Durham; Arthur W. Bradford, of Compton; Mathon Bradford of Phoenix, Arix.; Ernest Bradford, of Olivehurst; and Mrs. Ester Briggs, of Sacramento; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Huddleston Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ellsworth Benedict, of Durham Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Dayton Cemetery."
