GERBER Former Rolls-Royce Senior Vice President of Product Support for aero engines for all of the Americas, passed away on September 14, 2008, at the age of 95. He was born in Bern, Switzerland on July 12, 1913 but was raised in Canada. As a young adult, he became a motorcycle champion, winning events in Canada and the United States. Harley-Davidson sponsored him. He began his aeronautical career in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Later he worked for the aero engine division of Ro lls-Royce Canada. He supported Trans-Canada Airlines (now Air Canada) on the Rolls-Royce Merlin engines in the Lancastrian aircraft and also assisted the RCAF on the Rolls-Royce Nene engines in the T-33 aircraft. Ernie began his 50-year residence in Woodland Hills, California in 1958 having been transferred there by Rolls-Royce. As Supervisor of Service Representatives, he and his team were responsible for service support on the Dart, Conway, Avon, Tyne, Spey and RB-211 engines. During this time and un til his retirement in 1981 as Senior Vice President of Product Support for all the Americas, he traveled the world to places such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Europe, South America, Australia, China and Japan to assist customers in the operation of their Rolls-Royce engines. He was an expert at engine involvement in airplane crash investigations and wrote a crash investigation manual that was purchased by the U.S. Air Force. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Alma, he is survived by his daughters, Gwen Gerb er and Carolyn LeVasseur; his grandchildren, Brent LeVasseur and Brooke LeVasseur; and by his great-grandchildren, Ian Housden and Hannah Housden. In addition, his living brothers and sisters include Lena Dean, Emma Cook, Arthur Gerber, Willard Gerber and Mary Adams as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted on Friday, September 19, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Mortuary located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, California, 91362.
