Kirby Barnes

Just as the crowds were leaving town Saturday the saddened news passed around that Kirby Barnes, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Barnes, lay still in death. He had been very ill for over three months of tuberculosis of the throat and glands, and while all realized that his condition was serious few were prepared for so sudden a termination of the struggle.
Kirby was 19 years and 16 days old, having been born March 3, 1891, at or near this place. He was of a quiet temperament, and generally liked. With the writer there had grown up a peculiar attachment to him, and his death came as a shock, even though he knew that such an outcome was probable. His last few days he seemed to realize that the end was near, and on Friday he called the family to him and expressed his belief that the end was near and said that he was willing to go. To others he said the same, and who can doubt that the Judge of all the earth will do right with him in the great beyond.
The funeral was held from the home Sunday afternoon, March 20th, and the body interred after services conducted by the writer in the Van Cleve Cemetery. A large concourse of friends and relatives gathered to mingle their sorrow with that of the bereaved family and pay their respects to the deceased.
He is gone. We would have kept him had it been possible. All that could be done by medical skill and kind hands in nursing was done, but to no avail and so we mourn his departure with his friends and family and pray for a heavenly comfort to those who mourn.
