Sergeant Luke Stanford, 28, of Orlando died unexpectedly on Saturday October 4, 2008 at Fort Belvoir, VA. Luke was born July 26, 1980 in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Newington High School in 1998. He attended University of Tampa and settled in Orlando before enlisting in the Army in 2004. He attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, upon completion of training he was assigned to Charley Company, 16th Eng. BN. While assigned to the 16th, his unit was deployed to Tal Afar, Iraq in January 2006. During his tour in Tal Afar his Unit conducted numerous mounted and dismounted patrols. In September 2006 the Platoon moved south to Ramadi where they completed their tour in February 2007. He reenlisted and was currently serving as a member of the 911th Engineering Company (Technical Rescue). The 911th was established after the attacks on our country and serves as a technical rescue division for federal emergencies and natural disasters. While stationed at Ft. Belvoir he was assigned as the Alpha Team Leader of Second Squad, First Platoon. Luke was completing his college degree and planned on leaving the

Alison, Jennifer, Dominic and Adriana. His many other aunts, uncles and cousins are scattered throughout the United States and Germany. He also leaves his girlfriend, Teresa, who made his last months so special. Luke enjoyed his travels through Europe. His love of the water brought him to Longboat Key, FL. We shared many memories in Longboat and spoke of living there one day. He was the life of any party with his great sense of humor. He loved going out to dinner and was a regular with his parents at many Orlando restaurants! A loyal Red Sox fan, he loved cheering with his grandmother against the Yankees. He was a diehard Patriots fan and was still brooding over Super Bowl XLII. He shared special times with his stepfather, cheering on Cornhusker Football, both on TV and in Lincoln. Luke leaves so many friends from each chapter of his life. He was a true and loyal friend to all of them. "Your life was taken before we could enjoy all the plans we had for our future together. I will miss you so much, Luke. My life is forever changed without you", Mom. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 9AM from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington.
