Corp. James McConnell, a clerk from East Nantmeal, Pa. Enlisted at age 25 on Sept. 24, 1861, for 3 yrs.; in Company H, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal on Nov. 1, 1861 and died of yellow fever at Hilton Head, S. C, on Nov. 2, 1862. On November 3, the Regiment moved inside the entrenchments ,near the spot where it first encamped in 1861. The health of the men seemed to improve after the removal
