Private Samuel Hunter, a shoemaker from Downingtown, Pa. Enlisted at the age of 44 on October 12, 1861 for 3yrs, in Company H, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He died of chronic diarrhea on Sept. 4, 1863 and was buried on Morris Island, South Carolina, near the ruins of the lighthouse destroyed by the enemy, his grave being marked with name, company and regiment.
