Private Charles Haslam, a laborer from Charlestown ; enlisted at age 24 on Oct. 2, 1861, for 3 yrs.; in Company E, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in the right leg while on picket duty at James Island, S. C, on June 12, 1862 and died of his wounds in the U. S. Hospital at Hilton Head, S. C, on July 8, 1862.
