Alvah Baker enlisted as a Private in the Independent Company of the Fourth Michigan Infantry on March 19, 1864, for 3 years service, at age 44. He was on detached service with Company F of the First Michigan Infantry, by order, July 2, 1864. Alvah died of disease near Petersburg, Virginia, and was originally buried in Fort Hell before being reinterred.
