Garland, UT - Joanne Barnes Mecham - On July 17, 2008 at 3:55 a.m. the spirit of our sweet mother and friend left us. Joanne stepped gracefully from the arms of her loved ones here into the presence of her parents and family welcoming her beyond the veil.
Joanne was born December 9, 1935 and raised in Arco, ID. She lived most of her adult life in West Fielding, UT where she was loved by many dear friends and neighbors. Joanne was Valedictorian of her high school class and went on to graduate from BYU. Ever loyal, Joanne was a devoted lifelong fan of BYU basketball and football. When the cougars weren't playing she was also a dedicated Jazz basketball fan.
A great love of music and the arts was instilled by our mother into the hearts of each of her children. Teaching and playing piano or reading good literature were among her many joys. Few of her joys though, could compare to that of having grandchildren. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, each of whom she cherished. She is also survived by her husband, Lynn Niles Mecham, daughters, Jolynne (Scott) Wheelhouse, Emily (Grant) Wilson, Marianne Mecham, son, Kirk (Kelly) Mecham, 7 brothers and sisters, and countless nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Joanne is preceded in death by her father, Angus William Barnes, mother, Dorothy Peterson Barnes, Stepmother, Della Gray Barnes, brothers, Robert, Marvin, Grant, and sister, Arlene.
Joanne will be sorely missed by all who loved her. The family wishes to express gratitude to the compassionate, caring staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute and other doctors and hospitals involved in Joanne's care. A huge debt of gratitude is also owed to the many friends, neighbors, and relatives who have provided endless service and support.
A viewing will be held at Rogers and Taylor funeral home in Tremonton on Monday, July 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be on Tuesday, July 22, at the Belmont Chapel, 16925 N. 5200 W., Garland, Utah. Interment will follow in Nephi City Cemetery.
