Phoebe Bowman was born in North Carolina in 1816. In 1848
she was married to John Terwillegar in Illinois, from where they moved to Ohio, remaining a little over three years. They came to Iowa, where they lived for nearly twenty years. Then they moved to West Loon Lake township, Minnesota, where they lived until the death of Mr. Terwillegar two years ago last September.
October 27, 1906, she went on a visit to her sons in Idaho with her daughter Mrs. Walters. At first she expected to return after a few weeks, but finally decided to prolong her visit. While in the west she gained in health and flesh and looked ten years younger. February 20th she caught cold which developed into pnenmonia resulting in her death Febrary 24th. Her remains were brought to Spirit Lake Monday of last week and on Wednesday, March 4th, funeral services were held at West Loon Lake school house. In charge of Rev. J.A. Kettle. She was buried in the Loon Lake cemetery.
Mrs. Terwillegar had for over twenty years been a member of the Baptist church. Of the eight children born to her, five remain to mourn her death. She was a woman of strong motherly instincts, loved by all who knew her.
