Martin was born the son of J. R. and Carrie Thomas Martin in Montgomery County. He moved to the Elwood community in Polk County at an early age. He attended the then available Polk County public schools.
In 1928 he married the former Marie Robinson Apr 28, 1928 in Onalaska. To this union was born one child who survives. Martin moved to Port Arthur in 1940 and was employed by the Texaco Refining co. for 29 years before retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Port Arthur.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Martin, of Port Arthur; three sisters, Maggie Bell Turner of Port Arthur, Bonnie Watts of Livingston and Hortense Phillips of Livingston; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
