Constant was born in Hoofdplaat, Zeeland, Netherlands, as Constantine de Blieck on 05 Dec 1838, son of Pieter and Dina (Godlief) de Blieck. He married Philomina "Minnie" Blaakman in 1867 in Hoofdplaat. Many of our Blick/deBlieck family records are found in Netherlands records, in the town of Oostburg.

When Constant and Philomina came to America in 1874, their name was transcibed from de Blieck, to Blick. Constant became a citizen of the US in 1880, in McLean County, Illinois. From Illinois, the family moved to Colorado, where they resided near the Franklin family.

Two children of Constant and Minnie, married Franklin siblings. Lena Blick married Charley Franklin, and Henry Blick married Mary Franklin. Charley and Mary Franklin were children of Samuel B. Franklin (1854-1909) and Sarah V. Spangler (1855-1893). Another daughter of Constant and Minnie Blick, Sena Rose, married Albert Goff.

The Franklin, Goff, and Blick families moved from Colorado to Ferndale, Washington in 1907, to work in the lumber industry. After Constant died in 1911, his wife Minnie went to Oregon in 1918 to be near other Franklin-Blick family and died there in 1919. She was buried in Washington, with husband Constant in Ferndale. Constant and Minnie were the parents of twleve children, born in the Netherlands, Illinois and Colorado. Ten of them are: Pieter, Henry, Elizabeth, Albertina, Lena, John, Sena, Mary, Constant and William.

From the records of McLean County, Illinois, it was found that Constant Blick declared his intent to become a citizen of the U.S. This oath states:

I, Constant Blick, do solemnly declare an oath to C.W. Atkinson, clerk of the County Court of the County of McLean, state of Illinois, that it is my intention to become a citizen of the U.S., and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince potentate, state or sovereignty whatever, and particularly to King of Holland whereof I was heretofore a citizen or subject. Subscribed and sworn to before me, this 26th day of August A.D. 1880.

Constant signed this document in his own handwriting. This record was found in the National Record Book, 1859-1894, page 254. Citizenship was granted in 1882.

I found the family listed as Bliekema in the "Dutch Immigrants in US Passenger Manifest, 1820-1880" by Swieringa. It was later found that the family name was changed from De Blieck, to Blick, likely upon arrival in the US. Constant and Minnie sailed for America on the ship called "Netherland", which was a Belgian Steamship, Red Star Line. They embarked in Antwerp, Belgium and the port of arrival was Philadelphia, PA. on 28 Nov 1874. (M425-092).

The family leaving Holland was comprised of Constant, Minnie, and their two children Henricus (Henry), and Albertina. Destination for Constant and Minnie was listed as Hudson, Ohio. However, the family ended up in Hudson, Illinois. It is thought that perhaps the translation in language, led the family to Illinois, rather than the intended area of Hudson, Ohio. It is unknown who was in Hudson, Ohio, and if Constant and Minnie were ever able to meet up with them.
