Hannah and James were married June 11, 1848. He joined the Union Army in 1862 at the age of 38 and was discharged in 1864 due to a disease he contracted during his military service. He died of that disease in 1866 at the age of 42 leaving his wife widowed with 10 daughters and a six month old son.
