He enlisted August 5, 1863 and was mustered in September 16, 1863 at Knoxville, Pendleton County, Kentucky. He was a Private with Company A and B, 1st Kentucky Cavalry. He was mustered out on October 9, 1865.

1) on May 9, 1866 in Casey County, Ky to Amanda T, Randolph. They had eleven children.
2) on July 25, 1894 to Nancy Jane Matheny. No children.
