AN AGED LADY FOUND DEAD IN BED BY HER HUSBAND
DUE TO HEART FAILURE
Mrs. N.J. Overmier, an Old Resident, Called to Her Reward--Retired Apparently Well.

Mrs. N.J. Overmier of East Forth street passed away in sleep some time after midnight Saturday night, and was found Sunday morning about 7 o'clock by her husband, who went upstairs to waken her when she did not respond to his call.
Mrs. Overmier did not retire until midnight, and her husband, who has been a partial invalid for a number of years, told her not to get up at the usual time, as he would attend to the morning duties and call her when they were finished. Mr. Overmier occupied a downstairs bedroom and Mrs. Overmier an upstairs room. Sunday morning about 7 o'clock he called to her from the foot of the stairs, as he was seldom equal to the effort of climbing the stairs, and as she did not answer, he went upstairs to her room and to the bedside. She appeared In perfectly natural sleep, and he did not realize that anything was wrong until he placed his hand on her face, and was startled by its coldness. Mr. Overmier at once went downstairs and called in some neighbors, who soon found that life had been extinct for some hours. It is thought that Mrs. Overmier passed away soon after retiring, as there was no evidence of her having changed position after lying down. Heart failure, due to overexertion, was what the physician thought the cause of her sudden death. On Saturday she did the week's washing and ironing, walked uptown on an errand and had her house in perfect order for Sunday.
Mrs. Overmier had not been strong since she suffered two strokes of paralysis three years ago, but had improved so that she looked after her own household affairs and took care of her husband. She was a cheerful dispositioned woman and had many friends. She was a devoted and enthusiastic member of the First Methodist Episcopal church, and also of the Woman's Relief Corps, the Rebekah lodge and the Royal Neighbors.
The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by her pastor Rev. S.S. Martin. Burial in Miriam cemetery.
Mrs. Overmier was born near Bolivar, Star county, O., February 20, 1842. Her maiden name was Terissa Eversole. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eversole, who were residents of our city for many years. One of her two brothers lives in Maryville, D.R. Eversole, and the other, Jacob Eversole, lives in Kansas City, also a sister, Mrs. Jane Russell, lives in Kansas City. Another sister, Mrs. Ella Grady, lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mrs. Overmier was married to her husband in Ohio. They moved to Andrew county and settled in Savannah in 1869, where three of their children died. They then moved to Amasonia and lived for a time, and came to Maryville forty years ago and settled having owned their home on East Fourth street for thirty years, Mr. Overmier engaged in railroading for the Burlington all these years until he was forced by ill health to retire a few years ago.
Two sons survive with the husband, also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The sons are Jacob C. Overmier of Farragut, Ia., and Lawrence Overmier of Omaha, Mrs. Overmier enjoyed a visit from her children, grandchildren and baby great-grandson a number of weeks ago, and they all came at special request. She had notice a grown weakness lately and had remarked that she did not know just how long she would be able to continue to care for there home and her husband. She may have had some premonition of the end, for her home and all pertaining to its affairs were in perfect order. A good and true wife and mother has gone to her reward.
