Mrs. Ernest Trumbo Resided In Vicinity Several Years Ago
Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. Ernest Trumbo, formerly of this vicinity, at the home of her daughter inlaw at Eagleville, Mo., on May 24. The following tribute to her life and character were paid at services in Eagleville:
Hortense, daughter of James and Josephine Murphy, was born in New York state November 5, 1874, and at the age of six years came with her parents to Le Mars, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. On September 26, 1890, she was united in marriage with Murdock McInnis. To this union was born nine children, eight of whom are living. Her companion passed away January 19,1934, and five years later, February 4, 1939, she was united in marriage with W. E. Trumbo, of Trenton, Mo. The forty-four years of her first marriage were spent near Akron, Iowa, and soon after uniting in marriage with Mr. Trumbo they moved to his farm near Trenton, and later moved into Trenton. Two years ago they came to Eagleville, where they continued to live until her death, which occurred after a very brief illness, at the home of her step-daughter,
Mrs. Fred Powell at 11:00 p. m., May 24, 1949, at the age of 74 years. 6 months and 18 days. Although she had only lived among us two short years, it was ample time for many close friendships to be made, as all with whom she came in contact recognized many commendable traits in her. character, a lady in every sense of the word,-and her sudden going has brought intense sorrow to the many here who loved her.
She is survived by the companion, eight children, Mrs. Josie Hummel and Mrs. Hannah Weisenburger, of Sioux City; Lyle and John McInnis, of Akron; Theodore McInnis, of Reno, Nevada; Mrs. Grace Bockelman, of Hawarden, la.; Mrs. Mae Jones, of Jefferson, S. D., and Hector McInnis, of Sioux City; eight step-children, 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who will miss her loving presence sadly. Her eldest daughter, Mrs. Lula Gulbret, preceded her in death in 1943. The thoughts of many here will go with them today as they go to the old home with the body of their loved one, which will be lain by the husband of her youth in the Presbyterian Cemetery which adjoins the church there.
Beyond the sunset's crimson bars,
Beyond the twilight and the stars,
Beyond the midnight and the dark,
Sail on, sail on, '0 happy barque,
Into the dawn of that tomorrow
Where hearts shall find the end of sorrow.
And love shall find its own.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 28, at 2 o'clock, at the Plymouth Presbyterian church, east of Akron, with the Rev. Orville N. Nelson, pastor of the Methodist Church of this city, officiating. Pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased:
Jack McInnis, Lyle McInnis, Jr., Ray Olson, Ocy Jones, Jr., Duane Jones and Sterling McInnis.
