Charles E Hord was born in Franklin County, Ohio on October 30,1867. He was one of ten children born to his parents, Andrew Jackson Hord (1822-1886) and Mary Jane Hyland (1825-1911). Three of his siblings died before they reached adulthood. In 1868, the family moved to a farm in Pickaway, Shelby County, Illinois.

When Charles was nineteen he married Elizabeth (Lizzie) M Horn in Shelbyville, Illinois on September 1,1886. Lizzie was born in Ohio on May 5,1869. On January 21,1888 they had a son Frank Clifton who was born in Shelbyville. Frank was the only child of Charles and Lizzie. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Newark City, Licking County, Ohio which may have been where Lizzie was born. Charles worked there as a railroad conductor. By 1910, the family had moved to Ludlow, San Bernardino, California. Evidence shows Lizzie and her son, Frank, living in Ludlow without Charles. Frank was working as a machinist for the railroad at that time. By 1920, Charles and Lizzie, had moved to Greenwood, Eldorado County in central California. Charles continued to work as a railroad conductor while living there. Three years later Charles died in San Mateo, California and was buried at the Woodlawn Memorial Park there. His wife, Lizzie continued living in San Mateo until she passed away in 1945. She is interred next to Charles at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Their son Frank continued to live and work in southern California and eventually moved to Santa Barbara where he died on November 14,1974. He is buried in the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
