Marina, CA – Goldie Wince, 88, passed away peacefully February 24, 2014 with her daughter at her side.

The daughter of Wilhelm and Charlotte Klaes, born in Cologne, Germany, she was forced at a young age to develop survival skills in war-torn Germany. Goldie lost the majority of her family during the war, her most painful loss being her Jewish Mother. She immigrated to the U.S. where she met the joy of her life, Sherman Wince; married for 55 years until his passing in 2011. Many years prior she lost her parents and sister, Inga Solomon. Goldie lived most of her life in Marina and was surrounded by many loving friends and family. Her German friends were a great comfort to her, helping her to stay grounded in her native culture and fluent in her first language.

She is survived by her sons, William (Ruth) Wince, Thomas (Brona) Wince, Steve (Marilyn) Wince and daughter, Elaine (Lucky) Turner; six granddaughters and several great grandchildren; and her stepmother, Lydia Klaes. Losing her family at a young age, Sherman's family filled a great void in her heart and welcomed her with open arms, truly becoming her family. The family was comprised of Sherman's brothers, Gordon (Carole) Wince and Donald (Charleen) Wince, and sister, Nyla (Charles) Schad, along with each of their families. Goldie will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. Celebration of Life Service is 3:00pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at Epiphany Lutheran & Episcopal Church, 425 Carmel Ave., Marina. Please bring your fondest memory to share. Reception follows at 5:00pm at Community of Christ, 414 Reindollar Ave., Marina. This will be pot-luck style with finger foods. Her family invites those unable to attend to forward a card/memory to: Elaine Turner, c/o 234 Peninsula Drive, Marina, CA 93933. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Goldie's name to your favorite charity.
