Thomasina Ulmer Rettberg, 45, passed away unexpectedly July 14, 2001 several weeks following an open heart operation. A native of Jacksonville, she attended Bartram, was graduated from Bolles School and attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC. She was a member of the Jacksonville Debutante Coterie in 1974. Active in civic affairs, she was a member of the American Heart Association Council and a Board Member of the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles C. Rettberg, Jr., her father and mother, Thomas P. and Alice P. Ulmer, a sister, Palmer U. Sumners, two nephews, Thomas U. Sumners and Charles A. Sumners, IV, an aunt, Blanche Ulmer Pavlis, much loved children by Mr. Rettbergs first marriage, Victoria Fortuna, Valerie Rich, and Charles Rettberg and a host of loving relatives.

Interment will be private at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the Ulmer family plot in Evergreen Cemetery for family and close friends. Pallbearers will be Thomas Ulmer Sumners, Charles A. Sumners, IV, Charles C. Smith, Thomas Randolph Smith, Paul Pavlis, George Pavlis, and Alfred Pavlis. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. the same day at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park Street, with the Reverend Sally Lorey officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the charity of ones choice.
