John Chuma, 74, passed away peacefully in his Frackville home Monday February 05, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Frackville, he was the son of Lorraine (Schally) Chuma, Frackville and the late John Chuma, Sr. 

John was a 1967 graduate of North Schuylkill High School and attended Lincoln Tech.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 and served one year in Vietnam before developing cancer. He spent a year in the Walter Reed Army Hospital.

in May 1972, John attended Penn State Schuylkill and earned a Degree to teach Electronics in Vocational - Technical Schools.

He owned and operated John's TV repair from 1973 - 1988 and began a second business: Dynamark Security which he operated from 1979 - 2006.

While recuperating at home in 1972, John started umpiring games for the Frackville Little League. He began coaching Teener League baseball in 1973 and was still involved in Teener baseball fifty years later serving as the Frackville Head Coach and Schuylkill County Teener League President.

The Teener League Field at Frackville's Memorial Park was re-named "The John Chuma Teener Field" in 2019. He also coached six years with the Frackville Little League, coached the Frackville Legion team for three seasons, and coached twelve years with the Frackville Biddy Basketball Program. 

John won his share of championships over the years - guiding Frackville to four Schuylkill County Teener League Senior Division titles (2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017), directing Frackville to its first-ever District 24 Little League championship in 1995, and coaching the Frackville Legion team to the Schuylkill Legion League Crown and its only trip to the Region 2 Tournament in 1999.

In the community, he was a Past Vice President of Frackville Borough Council and was an officer with the Frackville Biddy Basketball Association, Frackville Midget Football Association, North Schuylkill Football Halftime Club, and North Schuylkill baseball.

John was a member of the Frackville Elks, American Legion, Amvets, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and on the Frackville Flag Committee. He was a previous member of the Jaycees, Recreational Board, and Lions Club.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife: Susan L. "Susie" (Hinkle) Chuma in 2001.

John is survived by his daughter: Angela (Jason) Rein of Rye Brook, New York; his sons: John (Tanesha) Chuma III of Lititz and Kristopher (Katie Halko) Chuma of Frackville; his granddaughters: Kris, Elisha, and Jaylen; his grandsons: Knox, Joshua, Asher, and Alexander; his mother; his sister: Georgine Fallon; his mother-in-law: Bernice Hinkle; his in-laws; his nieces and nephews; and, his partner and best friend: Tina Honushefsky.

Family and Friends are invited to his Visitation to be held from 04:00 - 08:00 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Frackville Elks Lodge, 307 S. Third Street, Frackville.

No Visitation on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in St. Ann's Catholic Church, 49 N. Line Street, Frackville. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30 AM with Rev. Adam C. Sedar as Celebrant.

Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
