Charlie began his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Elbert, Texas. The family moved to Clifton, Texas at the beginning of the 5th grade, where he finished high school. Charlie attended Texas A&M in 1954. He finished in 1959, with a Bachelor of Science in Range Management. On December 4th, 1959, Charlie entered the Army as a 2nd Lt, in the armor section at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Charlie returned to Texas late December where he married Maureen "Bunnie" Burns, his true love, on December 23rd, 1959. While in the army, he advanced through Officer training. After training in Ft. Knox for Armor Officer Communication School, he and Bunnie returned to Ft. Hood where their son Charles "Chuck" Jr. was born, November 1, 1960. He was extended during the Berlin crisis in 1961 and served until April 9th, 1962. Charlie was honorably discharged on that day and moved to Humble, Texas. Bunnie delivered a beautiful daughter, Martha, on October 25th, 1962, in Houston, Texas.
Charlie and Bunnie moved to Pearland in May 1988, where he bought an insurance agency and operated it until 2002 when he retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Martha Maureen Pollock. He is survived by his wife Bunnie Philipp; son Charles William Philipp Jr and wife Kathryn Alice Philipp, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Charlie will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, at 3:00 pm, with Pastor Reggie Clemons officiating, at First United Methodist Church, in Pearland, Texas.
