Betty Ann (McCullough) Curtis, 79, of Tomball, Texas passed away on the morning of August 7, 2023, just ten days shy of her 80th birthday.

Betty was born on August 17, 1943, in Denver, Colorado. At an early age, she and her family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she grew up and attended grade and high school. She attended college at Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, TX, where she received an associates degree in education. Occupationally, she worked as an assistant dorm direction at Southwestern and as a dorm secretary at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, along with several other secretarial jobs, many of which were at churches that she attended.

Betty came to know Jesus as her personal savior when she was a young teenager. She was invited by a friend and neighbor to attend a revival, where she heard the gospel. In her own words, she often said, "When the minister gave the call, I could not get to the alter fast enough, so I ran." Betty was a strong believer, devoting daily time to prayer and reading her bible, attending church, teaching her sons about Jesus, and serving and loving others unselfishly.

Betty was also a devoted wife. She met her husband, DeWayne, while the two of them worked at the college cafeteria at Southwestern. After several years of knowing each other and dating, they married on August 23, 1975. Together, they faced the adventures and challenges of life, which included the birth and raising of two sons, multiple moves, and career changes. Betty loved and served DeWayne in many ways: she supported him through school, moved with him as a military serviceman's wife, and worked outside the home when needed. In the words of one son, "She was just as in love with Dad at 40 years as she was when she got married."

Betty was an amazing mother. She made sacrifices so that her boys could attend Christian schools. She was insistent that her boys were in church, but more importantly, that they experienced the realness of Jesus Christ.

Betty was a dear friend and family member. She was loyal, consistent, and welcoming. She could laugh; she could cry; and she could fiercely love. She deeply loved and was committed to her parents, her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and dear family friends, the Sullivans. She also loved her eternal family, the church.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, Harley and Goldie McCullough of Oklahoma City; her sisters, Freda Bentley and Alice Vandiver; and her brothers, Bobby McCullough and Doyle "Pete" McCullough.

She is survived by her husband, Dewayne Curtis, of Tomball, Texas; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Tiffany Curtis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joel and Rebecca Curtis of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren, Ezekial, Lincoln, Porter, Boston, and Chapel Curtis, and one child to be born in February of next year.

She is also survived by two brothers, Mike McCullough of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Phil McCullough of Temecula, California; six nieces and thirteen nephews; a host of grandnieces and grandnephews; family and church friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

Burial will be in the Houston Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

*This wonderful tribute was written by Betty and Dewayne's sons, Josh and Joel.
