LaVon Curtis Snowling Ohlson "Von"
Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother LaVon Ohlson passed away peacefully on February 7, 2008 after 99 wonderful years of life. LaVon was born September 3, 1908 in Salt Lake City to Charles Lewis Snowling and Florence Curtis Snowling. LaVon has been a proud resident of the Avenues her entire life. She graduated from East High School and worked at Mountain Bell Phone Company as a switchboard operator and supervisor from 1926 until 1939.
She married Axel Arnold (Arnie) Ohlson on September 30, 1933. She left work to raise her three children, and after her children were grown she returned to work at Holy Cross Hospital as a technician and supervisor in Central Services. She continued her educational pursuits in Microbiology while employed at Holy Cross Hospital and earned a certification in her area of specialization. She worked there for 28 years until she retired in 1990 at the age of 82. LaVon was an avid reader and followed politics closely. She loved to garden and was compassionate and generous toward her family and neighbors. LaVon was a member of the LDS church.
LaVon is survived by her three children: Conrad (Halle); Shelley Davis (Kent); Curtis (Faith); by her 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband Arnie who died in 1964; her sisters, Florence LaBronte and Irene Christensen; and by her daughter-in-law Dorie Ohlson.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the graveside. The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens for the loving kindness and excellent care they gave to our mother.
