Solomon Talbert was the owner of a wagon and carriage building shop in West Elkton. He secretly built a few carriages and wagons that were specially made to hide and transport runaway slaves. Levi Coffin himself used some of these carriages and wagons in transporting slaves to freedom.

Died at his house, near here, on Thursday, April 17th, of pneumonia, Solomon Talbert, aged 65 years. Deceased was a conscientious, consistent Quaker. Rachel Maddock, of Richmond, Ind., delivered the funeral discourse. There were several from abroad attended the funeral.
