Roy, fondly known as Pop Pop, was born to Edward Floyd Rogers and Lucille Rogers on November 29, 1946 in Houston, Texas. Soon after graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps so that he could serve his country in Vietnam. Roy continued serving his country for 15 years, being stationed at times in Japan, the Philippines, Germany, and throughout the United States, lastly in Fort Benning, Georgia. He chose to leave the military to work for his brother Kenny Rogers as his head of security and chief body guard while traveling the world and protecting some of the biggest music acts of the times including Dolly Parton and Ray Charles.
Roy loved his family, friends, Jesus, his Georgia Bulldogs, classic Westerns and fishing when he could. He was known as a man of few words but when he spoke you listened but mostly laughed. He enjoyed visiting with his military buddies and touring family but mostly traveling and spending as much time as he could with his boys, grandchildren and wife of over 51 years. Roy will be missed by many but never forgotten as our hero and Pop Pop.
