Joseph D. Addison "Joe" departed this life on January 3, 2023. He was born July 23, 1945, the son of the late Naomi Addison Carr and Jethro Carr. Joe was educated in Newport News Public Schools. He graduated from Huntington High, Class of 1963. Joe joined the United States Air Force, served for 24 ½ years and retired May 19, 1988, at the rank of Master Sergeant. He attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Community College of the Air Force, University of Guam, Temple University, and Senior Enlisted Academy.

During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed at Wheelus AFB, North Africa, Westover AFB, MA, Castle AFB, CA, Langley AFB, VA, McGuire AFB, NJ and Andersen AB, Guam. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe gained employment from Howmet Aerospace in Hampton VA, until he retired in 2009.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, Jethro Carr, mother, Naomi Addison Carr, two sisters; Fay Suiter and Marie Carr Washington; and his brother John Carr.

Joseph D. Addison leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Frances Pope Addison; eight children: Valarie A. Miller (Renard), Stacy D. Addison (Karen), Adrienne A. Kashin (Raymond), Joy A. Samuels, Delavon Addison, Dana D. Russell (Wayne), Johnnie J. Nichols, Charles J. Nichols (Carol); two bonus sons: Thomas Dicker (Tracy) and Rod Cannon, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Three sisters: Naomi Corry (Walter), Rena Carr, Hazel Ham. Two brothers: Jethro Carr (Susie), and Kevin Carr; One brother-in-law, Benjamin Pope (Bonnie); three sisters-in-laws: Sheila Turner, Linda Malone (Larry), and Marstean Dean (Mark) and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

CC Carter Funeral Home will have viewing on January 15, 2023 from 12-4pm, as well as a viewing at New Grafton Baptist Church 4401 Chestnut Ave. Newport News on January 17th from 10:30 until the service begins. Services will start at 12:30pm.
