Eva G. Phillips

Eva Greene Phillips, 87, of Hilton Head, S.C., died April 27, 2006, in Hilton Head, where she had lived for more than 24 years.

Mrs. Phillips was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Aline, Ga., and was a daughter of the late Lum and Annie Greene.

She resided and worked in Metter, Ga. until her marriage. Throughout her 55-year marriage, she guided and supported her husband in his careers as an officer in the U.S. Army and as vice president of James Madison University.

Before moving to Hilton Head, she resided in Georgia, Michigan, Kentucky, Germany, Kansas, Georgia for a second time, Maryland and Virginia. She was actively involved in every community where she lived holding leadership roles in garden clubs and women's clubs. She organized and participated in service activities, taught Vacation Bible School, and volunteered with the Red Cross and in hospitals.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head, the Hilton Head Garden Club, the Military Officers Associations of American Ladies, and the Women's Association of Hilton Head Island.

Her husband, Adolph H. Phillips, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Dolphine Mullen of Hilton Head, and Clorisa Phillips of Charlottesville; a sister, Cora Lee Greene of Hilton Head, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Beaufort, S.C.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Sunday at the Island Funeral Home and Crematory in Hilton Head.
