William Hirst III. Born Jan. 13, 1815, in Saulsburg, Pa., he was admitted on trial in Baltimore MEC in 1838, ordained a Deacon in full connection in 1840, and ordained an Elder in 1842. He preached under MEC appointment 34 ½ years (1838-1862) and died Aug. 11, 1862, in Washington, D.C. (aged 47y 6m 29d) of typhoid fever, while serving his first year at Foundry. His appointments were Danville (1838), Sunbury (1839), Northumberland (1840), Milton (1841), West Branch - Jersey Shore (1842-43), Hagerstown (1844-45), Annapolis (1846-1847), Baltimore City Station (1848-49), Charles St (Baltimore) (1850-51), Loudoun Circuit (1852-54), Winchester Station (Market Street, 1854-55), PE of Winchester Dist (1855-58), Fayette St (Baltimore) (1858-59), Baltimore City Station-Light St (1860-61), and Washington (Foundry) 1862. Son of William and Sarah Wilson Hirst, he was the husband of Eliza Bowman Hirst (1820-1906) and father of Homer Torrence, Anna Bowman Hirst Curry, Alphonsa Roberts Hirst Winter, and Eliza Virginia Hirst. William is buried in the Preacher's Lot, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Baltimore.
