John Imesch, 80, of Grosse Pointe Farms died at his place of work, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe, formerly Bon Secours Hospital. John was legal counsel for the hospital system for 22 years. Prior to his work at the hospital, John was counsel for American Natural Resources and Michigan Mutual Liability Company. He was very proud of his Swiss heritage as his parents were immigrants from Switzerland. As a Roman Catholic boy, he attended St. Ambrose Catholic School, then St. Paul on the Lake Catholic School. In addition to high grades in academics, John was quite the athlete as his nickname was "Red Letterman". It was at the high school where he met, fell in love, and married Donna Marie Cadieux, his wife of 57 years. He graduated from Detroit College of Law and passed his bar exams with ease. He was very devoted to his family and is remembered lovingly by his children, Robert (Mary), David (Beverly), Jay, Maryann (Gordon), Dona Marie (Shawn), John Joseph, and Patrick (Kristyn). He spent many hours of enjoyment with his grandchildren, Ross, Erin, Alison, Josef, Anna, Jack, Jaymie and Sabel. John was also very close to his twin sister Janet Wendling and his brother, Bishop Joseph of Joliet, Illinois, formerly auxiliary Bishop of Detroit, both of whom survive him. John dedicated his life to his family, his church, his community, his work, and most of all to the many friends he made throughout his life.

Visitation: February 1, 2008, 2-5pm & 7-9 pm, with prayer services at 7:30pm at the Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park.
Funeral Mass: February 2, 2008, 10 am. at St. Paul's on the Lake, 157 Lakeshore Rd, Grosse Pointe Farms.

**Prayer of St. Francis**

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled...as to console;
to be understood...as to understand;
to be loved...as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning
that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.

**Love is Life**

Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source.
Leo Tolstoy
