Both Austin, and his brother, Daniel, started out together from East Haddam, CT, but Austin stayed in Otsego Co., until after his marriage in 1808. He was a school teacher there, inaddition, to being a surveyor, farmer, and active in Ogden--bothin the Presbyterian Church and as a surveyor of property in Ogden and Spencerport, NY. His surveys are found today to be quite correct. In an article by A. Ross Kitt, SupervisorSpencerport (1967- ), All About Ogden, he stated that AustinSpencer served as Supervisor 5 separate times for a total of nine years: 1819, 1825, 1829-1833, 1839, and 1846. Otsego Co.Land Record. 58-236. 23 Jul 1827. Austin Spencer & Polly his wife, John B. Elwood & Isaac Elwood quit claim in Town of Springfield, McKees Patent. Rec'd 21 mar 1837. Genesee Co., NYDeed 9-297. 4 Jun 1816. John R. Murray et al and Austin Spencer of Parma, land in Dist. of Fairfield, lot 20 being east part of sd lot, 66 34/100 acres. Monroe Co. Wills Bk. 4, 594
