David was born and raised at Nuzum's Mill, Monongalia Co., Virginia (now Hammond, Marion Co., West Virginia). He was enumerated there with his parents by the 1850 and 1860 US Censuses.

David married Mary Virginia Vandergrift on 4 January 1869 in Marion Co., West Virginia. Virginia was born circa 1847 in Virginia.

David was a farmer. David and Virginia were long time residents of Union Township, Marion Co., West Virginia, where they were regularly enumerated by US Censuses between 1850 and 1900.

Virginia died after 1889 and before the 1900 US Census.

David, widower, was enumerated with his family near Nuzum's Mills (Hammond), Marion Co., West Virginia, in the 1900 US Census.

David married second, Sarah J. Wilt, widow of Washington Wilt, in 1911 in Marion Co., West Virginia [West Virginia Marriage Index, 1785-1971].

David was enumerated at Masontown, Preston Co., West Virginia, with his daughter, Etta Graham, and her family, in the 1930 US Census.

David died in Monongalia Co., West Virginia [West Virginia Death Index, 1853-1973].
