Country Singer, Songwriter. Known as Montana Slim, Wilf Carter was a Canadian Country musician who rose to popularity in the 1930's with his cowboy yodel style which he helped shape into one of the most popular styles of music of the era with his acclaimed "three-in-one echo yodel." Throughout the 1930's he regularly appeared on radio shows, even hosting his own CBS country music radio program in New York City, until he was dropped in 1940. His music became popular in Canada as well as in Australia and New Zealand where it inspired other artists such as Tex Morton and Slim Dusty. He was also popular in the United States under the name of Montana Slim. After a serious car accident in 1940, Wilf stepped back from recording however, his records continued to be sold due to his popularity. He went on to get signed by RCA Victor where he recorded forty LP records. He recorded his last album in 1988. Wilf was also a credited songwriter with an estimated five hundred songs credited to him. His biggest hits included "My Swiss Moonlight Lullaby," The Capture of Albert Johnson," "Beautiful Girl of the Prairie," "The Yodelin' Song," "Pete Knight, The King of the Cowboys," and "By the Silvery Moonlight Trial."
