An accident claimed the life of a Rushville man Thursday evening at a local church when a horizontal support beam he was working on gave way and fell on him.

Kenneth Sparks, 48, was born in Connersville on June 13, 1938, the son of Earnest and Martha Steele Little Sparks. He was married to the former Geneva Hill on Dec 23, 1959. She survives.

He was a forestry foreman with the Rush County REMC and was a member of the Indiana Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of the First Church of God, where he belonged on the Men's Fellowship organization and served on the building committee. He was a member of the Army Reserves.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Little; four sons, Garland Harpring of Lawrenceville, GA, Charles Harpring of Rushville, Kenneth Sparks, JR of Santa Ana, CA, and Timothy Sparks of Rushville. Also surviving were three brothers, Robert of Connersville, Dewey of California, and Wayne of Andersonville; one sister, Joann James of Connersville and six grandchildren.

Funeral services are set for Monday at 2PM at Todd Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Justice officiating. Burial will be at Rushville East Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 5PM and 7 to 9PM Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Horizons Christian School at the Church of God.
