Huldah was an older sister of Bildad Phillips, and the 2nd daughter/child of Pvt. Spencer Phillips (who served in the Revolutionary War) & the widow Dorcas Flower. Huldah was born in Ashfield, in what then was Hampshire county, Massachusetts.
She came to the Michigan Territory as early as March of 1834, and settled in Independence Twp, near the site of present-day Clarkston, MI.
She was believed living with her brother Bildad and family in 1840 in Independence Twp, having her own place by 1850.

She died having never married.

(Huldah's will was recently rediscovered ca.2010 due to its inclusion in a donation of artifacts to the Clarkston Historical Society.

An excerpt reads " ...to Edward Phillips one bed and bedding and standing up chamber (armoire). To Mariah McGunnigh the best tablecloth and to Margaret McGunnigh my loom and all the apparatus belonging to it. One big kettle and flat irons and wash tub to Helen McGunnigh.
To Theodore Phillips my cow and to Sylvester Phillips two sets of spoons and to Lydia Ann Phillips my bunnet (bonnet) and shawl and cloak and the remainder of my household furniture and corn on the ground to my brother Bildad Phillips.")
