He accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a member of Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina.
Johnie Mae as he was fondly call by his family and friends, was quiet and soft spoken and a man of few words. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Wade, and a loving father and grandfather to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a father figure to many.
He was a professional truck driver by trade and loved sharing stories about his long-distance trips. He was employed by Blue & Gray Transportation Company for over 20 years. He enjoyed watching television ministries and baseball, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Johnie Mae leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Jeanette Wade; three sons, Charles, Leroy and Dossie Wade all of Richmond, Virginia; two daughters, Doris W. Gross of Richmond, Virginia, and Hannan Barrett of Greensboro, North Carolina; two sons-in-law, Milton Gross and Douglas Barrett; two daughters-in-law, Deborah Wade and Barbara Wade; seven grandchildren—Charles, Jr., Dossie Jr., Iris, Justin and Ashley Wade, and Jeremy and Jaron Gross; eight great grandchildren; one goddaughter, Kinisha Green, three brothers, Lenwood Wade of Atlanta, Georgia, Spencer Wade of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Hosea Wade of Yorktown, Virginia, five sisters, Elzie Northington, Minnie Richardson and Geraldine Wade, all of Halifax, North Carolina, Mittie Uzzle of Easton, Pennsylvania and Willie Cary of Glenside, Pennsylvania; two brothers-in-law, Webster Uzzle and Reverend Calvin Cary; one sister-in-law, Nadine Wade, several nieces and nephews—and a host of other family members and friends.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29 at Swansboro Baptist Church, 3801 Midlothian Turnpike. Rev. Herbert Plummer, pastor. Eulogy by Rev. Robert C. Farmer. Interment Maury Cemetery.
