Musician. Born Andrew John Leonard Fletcher, he was a keyboardist and founding member of legendary electronic-pop group Depeche Mode. Along with Dave Gahan, Vince Clarke, Alan Wilder and Martin Gore, he helped form the band in the early 1980s. The band would go on to become one of the most iconic and influential electronic music bands in history, selling more than 100 million records around the world. The origins of Depeche Mode date back in the late 1970s, when Fletcher and schoolmate Clarke began playing music together. They soon linked up with Gore to form a synth group named Composition of Sound, and then, after recruiting Gahan to sing vocals, rebranded themselves as Depeche Mode. The band would go on to release more than a dozen studio albums including 'Speak & Spell' (1981), 'Construction Time Again' (1983), 'Some Great Reward' (1984), 'Black Celebration' (1986), 'Music for the Masses' (1987), 'Violator' (1990), 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' (1993), 'Exciter' (2001), 'Playing the Angel' (2005), 'Sounds of the Universe' (2009) and 'Spirit' (2017). Their 1990 album, 'Violator,' would be their most successful album, selling more than 15 million copies worldwide. In 2020, Depeche Mode was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
