He was a Private in Capt. Israel Chapin's Company, Col. Elisha Porter's Regiment, North Hampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts line Feb.1776-1777.
Spencer Phillips married, Nov. 28, 1783, Dorcas, the widow of Bildad Flower, who died in the Revolutionary army.
They lived in Ashfield, Hampshire County (now Franklin County), MA and raised their family of six children there.
Their children were:
Eleanor, b. 1785;
Huldah, b. 1787;
Paulina, b. 1789;
Mahitabel ("Mabel"), b. 1793;
Bildad, b. 1797; and
Spencer, b. 1798.
They then went to Sempronius, Cayuga, NY around 1818-19 and resided there until about from 1833-1834 when they removed to Hartland, Huron County, Ohio, living with their son Spencer Jr. on a 51 acre farm on lot 310.
It was there they spent their remaining years.
